DAY 27: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2019: FIRST PORT DAY : GRAND CAYMAN

I was up at 6:30 and running by 7:00. At 8:00 am I did a private TRX class. Another person, a guy, signed up but did not show up. Okay with me! My class was like Personal Training which could be $95. I lucked out. I was wishing by 426 Sisters were here. They would have liked it. I will sign up again if it is a time we aren’t on an excursion. The class was 45

This morning JUDY, Jane, and  Jane texted. So good to hear from them. I wished they could have joined TRX with me this morning. Love hearing from them. I heard from GERI about the house renovation. Peter called to ask if I’d walk with him to the Veterans‘ Home with his Mount Hope class. That is something I gladly would have do e if we had been home- special place in my heart for those Versmaße third graders entertained.
After a shower, Tom and I went to the Horizon dining room for a light breakfast before going ashore. I was hoping to buy Christmas gifts, but only found 1. Oh well, we have more islands to visit.

ON THE TENDER TO CAYMAN

VIEWS FROM THE RIDE TO SHORE

This is: George Town, two words and below, FORT GEORGE

This historical site is very basic and easy to miss. It consists of some wall ruins that are fairly low, some info plaques, some murals and a couple of cannons. It is located near the tender docks for the cruise ships and could be interesting to history buffs. At least it gave us a bit of history of the town.
Fort George stands as an important historical landmark that tells the tale of a Cayman Islands once protected from this very spot by the local militia. The fort was built by locals using limestone and coral, though nobody can be sure exactly when, and after many years of little to no use, it was handed over to the National Trust.
It was going to be destroyed since it was in ruins, but it was saved.
The clock tower was built in 1937 to King George V.

FORT GEORGE AND WHY IT‘S CALLED GEORGE TOWN

DECORATIONS OF LOCAL SHOPS
TO MATCH LOCAL FOLKLORE

THE GIFT SHOPS HAD INTERESTING LIKENESSES OF PIRATES

I think they are a clever decorations but I do t ever want to meet a real one. Tom and I actually have pirate outfits on the RV which i was hoping to wear for Halloween. They would have been perfect for Savannah, Isle of Hope where we always were on the boat and they close the road to traffic for kids of all ages but no one did that in Naples. A young man on the Tender said he was a sign language interpreter hired by the ship. On other cruises he has been on, he said the crew actually shut off the lights in some areas where they travel at night and where pirates are known to be. He said THAT unnerved him. To fight back they use fire hoses— powerful, yes, but how powerful are the against guns? I guess the could not the pirates out of boats or on their A——! I don’t want to find out.

LOVE THIS PHOTO OF THE SIBS FROM 4TH OF JULY

AT 4:00, the ship departed Cayman and headed for Cartejenia. Our dinner tonight will be early so we can hear the Comedian we missed opening night! People enjoyed him, so I hope we do too.
Only issue with this trip, the guys have to wear long pants at dinner which Tom hates. He brought many great Island Jimmy Buffet and Tommy Bahama Shirts— sacrilegious to wear them with long pants in the islands.

CHAMPAGNE GLASS TOWER ( WE HEARD A FEW BREAK)

LOVE THESE TWO BOW SPRITS AT THE WHEELHOUSE BAR

Great comedy show, clean, not always politically correct which he explained ahead of time. He suggested a time to laugh, both sides of the aisle have their chance and just respect it!

A little time listening to Ragtime, watching Carolyn on the one arm bandit and others playing roulette and craps— too hard to understand!
 The goodnight...
