DAY 31: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2019: IN LIMON, COSTA RICA

Up at 7 am to run before TRX . Great warm up then another solo workout with Alen. This time he had me do the complete sequence over time, ouch. I’ll feel this tomorrow. I wish I could have another class of this but I think that was the last one scheduled for the cruise.
After showering, Tom and I went to breakfast before meeting Carolyn and Rick to head ashore. No more excursions! I would have loved to go Ziplining or in the gondola through the forest tree tops, but after the last few days, no thank you. We shopped along the shore of Limon.

I felt we got some pretty good buys for Christmas gifts.  If I could  have only carried more! Unique items, but not easy to pack! It’s a darn good thing we have our car and are not flying home!

THE STERN OF ISLAND PRINCESS. I HAVENT WALKED BACK THERE YET

AN ENJOYABLE LOCAL BAN WITH AMAZING HARMONIES.

VIEW FROM PORT LIMON
This place was beautiful with its landscape. The cloud covered mountains are a spectacular setting here. I was hoping for a sunset but we were facing the wrong direction and the other side was cloudy also. I wanted the canopy tour from the gondola or zipline but I’m sure I would have had to fly solo. No one was in for another bus ride. I have to admit a quiet day on the ship wasn’t bad at all. I returned to the gym for weights and read a while. Tom read in his humid cigar hideaway on the top deck, Rick experimented with his new camera, and Carolyn read a lot. I have to start getting People Magazine. It was a great day.

AND FROM BUFFALO, WE HAVE THE BABIES, SO ADORABLE, ALWAYS HAPPY . WE MISS ALL THE GRANDKIDS

SNOW IN BUFFALO! STELLA AND LEO ARE ALWAYS WARM. I WOULD NEED A HEAVY COAT, GLOVES, AND HAT. LOL!

Yesterday we saw this beautiful flower on a poster:

HOLY SPIRIT ORCHID
This is the land of lush jungles which we can see all around us, white faced spider monkeys, bowler monkeys, and their beloved“quick moving“ sloths. They are so slow it’s hard to see them in the trees. They hardly move. I felt it was one of the prettiest ports yet!

The climate in Limon is tropical, of course, with a constant temperature between 80—90. it is believed Columbus landed near Limon in 1502 on his 4th and final voyage to the New World. Although called Costa Rica, Rich Coast, it didn’t live up to the promise of gold so he moved on to other islands.
I have a fascination with pirates and found this: In 1640, Pirate Henry Morgan dropped anchor in Portete, a small bay near Limon and headed off-road scoop up BOOTY.
What he found was a group of angry town citizens and country Volkshochschule pushed them back to Limon and off they went. If Morgan  had arrived 200 years later, the wealth he would have found would be pineapples, bananas, and cocoa, a far cry from gold but you can’t eat gold!
