DAY 98: SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2020: KEY WEST 5 K HERE WE COME

Up early, too early, but here I go! We were up at 3:30 and hit the snooze to 3:40 am, then got up. I must be crazy. We left by 4:05 and arrived in KW near the starting line by 5:25 am. Perfect timing because we could park in the parking lot at the starting line and take a nap. Tom began his nap while I headed to Registration to pick up my bib number and make my first trip to the rest room, one of three.
I returned and started my nap. 6:30, trip two to the restroom which was shut down due to failure, 1000s of people and broken heads. Luck for us, we know enough to go into Harpoon Harry‘s. Back for another short nap and then the final trip to the head. Nerves. I’ve only had little sips of water since last night. At 6:55, we watched the Half Marathoners head out. It was a sea of people.
At 7:15 am, the second wave was sent off with the starting gun and a very humorous starter who asked Patriot fans to raise their hands. He announced he wants San Francisco to win since Jimmy Garrapoulo was a secondary quarterback for the Patriots at one time. I agree with him

WAITING IS SO HARD

THE START WITH MY NEW FRIEND FROM WISCONSIN (BRRR LOTS OF SNOW THERE)

The course was good. Flat! So many people. All good. 75 degrees, a slight breeze, partly sunny. Perfect!

FINISH LINE: YEAH!
I came in 4th in my age group, but happy to finish. I was 195th out of 800 + 5K runners. I’m happy I finished.

WE HEADED TO HARPOON HARRY S FOR A HUGE WAFFLE WITH PECANS AND BANANAS
Kindly, GERI had invited us to brunch with MYC but that would have meant waiting 2 hours. Two of us were hungry and had a fabulous free parking spot in the action.
BIB, SIGNATURE SHIRT, AND MEDAL
I noticed, after we left, we had two free drinks at the Turtle Krawl on a Tag on my bib. We didn’t need it anyway. I could have had free beer for 4 hours while Listening to The Howard  Livingston Band.

We passed on the beer and opted for breakfast but did get two cups for later. The staff at Harry s amazing. With all those people, they still had a great sense of humor and were kind.

I signed up for next year‘s race, of course, January 17, 2021. Yikes! Seems so far away.
By 10:45 am , we were on our way home and stopped at Winn Dixie for things to bring when we meet Joan, Gordon, and crew at Curry Hammock at 5:00pm.

I better not have more than one wine. I may fall asleep. 😴
Tom washed my car. It looks magnificent. Thursday I bring it to Key West for service.

I made more crafts: more napkin rings and a hot plate. We are going to dinner on Wednesday to a friend who will be traveling with us to Alaska.

The napkin rings are similar to what I’ve been making, but this hot plate compliments the gray and white striped napkins that say RELAX on them.

NEWEST ITEM: A TRIVET FOR HOT DISHES

Time to make a calzone.
We spent a wonderful cocktail hour in Curry Hammock with Joan, Gordon, Cheryl and Duke. Their home and Deck is beautiful. So relaxing! Thank you for sharing your home. We look forward to seeing Cheryl in the play next week.

Tom and I wanted to see the end of the 49ers/ Packers Game. It was good. 49ers won! Exactly what I wanted. Jimmy Garrapoulo was the NE Pats backup quarterback.
Now, we are very tired and went home.

Lots of FB messages today after I posted my race.
A great day!

Em and Todd Sent these wonderful photos of the kids with Martha Anne, their new cousin. So beautiful !

What a day!!!!
